True confessions time! when I started this challenge back in April I did make a list of all the letters of the alphabet and possible topics that matched each letter. After all, I'm a woman with endless deadlines and I have to plan ahead. No time for musing over my A to Z Challenge every day. Sadly, this is the entry for Q:

Q - ?

Yup, I've got nothing. As a Scrabble fanatic, I know there aren't that many Q words in the first place, let alone words related to the plant world. Then Queen Anne's Lace popped into my head. I'm a fan because it grows on the roadside and is a perfect filler for my flower bouquets(I write this as a person who doesn't suffer from allergies to pollen from plants like Queen Anne's Lace).

Most people consider Queen Anne's Lace a weed. I think it's a combination of the growing of the roadside growing and allergy inducing tendencies. It's not considered a garden worthy plant. Poor Queen Anne's Lace.

Of course that's the tricky thing about weeds. The definition is "an unwanted plant" which makes it pretty subjective. I can live with Queen Anne's Lace in my garden. But I'm pulling out Rose of Sharon seedlings with wild abandon. My neighbor, on the other hand, has a neat little hedge of Rose of Sharon bushes. I've even had plants I loved that transformed into weeds (I'm looking at you Sweet Autumn Clematis).

I suppose that's one of the most important life lessons as a gardener: deciding what are your weeds. But considering it, you can extend that question beyond the garden to all aspects of life. Sometimes we find it tough to "pluck" the weeds from our life because our friends or family enjoy them. Remember, it's your life. You get to label the weeds.
